If you’ve been paying attention, you know that we, the staff of Gontram Architecture, LOVE OUR TOYS!
We have a couple of drones for capturing aerial images and videos. We have a 3d printer for illustrating our designs in 3-dimensions. We have all types of cameras including GoPro’s, Digital SLR’s, video cameras, and others.
Now, the latest edition to our toy collection is more beneficial to our clients than all of the rest: A few months ago, we purchased a 3d camera. Why? For many reasons, not the least of which is, “It’s so cool!” (actual Client’s quote).
This 3d camera produces a virtual, web-based 3d walkthrough of the job site. Think of it like the Street View part of Google Maps, except for inside buildings. We can scan an interior job site prior to renovation, making repeated visits to the jobsite during the design phase unnecessary.
We can scan it during construction for virtual progress meetings. The Owner, Architect and Engineers can discuss the actual conditions WITHOUT meeting on-site, often an expensive and time-consuming activity, especially for out-of-towners.
We can also scan the completed project for the Owner’s own purposes, perhaps leasing and marketing or facility management.
Either way, “it’s pretty cool”!
