Gontram Architecture designed, constructed and donated this doghouse to Barkitecture 2007, a fundraising auction event benefiting the SPCA of Wake County.  This doghouse raised $1,100 for the SPCA.

A duplicate doghouse was constructed for the 2007 Animal House benefiting the Triangle Beagle Rescue.  15 doghouses were auctioned off at this gala, with the Gontram Architecture house bringing in the largest bid.

This dog “shelter” is the anti-kennel. A single side is reminiscent of a cage, with the remaining sides open and clear for maximum freedom and domain observation. The composition creates a shady, but ventilated, refuge. The roof collects rainwater in the gutter, funnels it through a labyrinth of copper piping, undulating in and out and between the grid, down to a dog bowl below. Stainless steel tube, angle and grid, copper piping, cedar planks combine to create this interesting composition.
